Still, you're going to miss the lack of a touchscreen when you click one-by-one through a lot of Settings and Glance widgets. I've found many Garmin Forerunner and Venu watch buttons annoyingly squishy and unreliable, but the Instinct gives you a nice textured feel and deliberate tactile feedback. I also appreciate that the Garmin Instinct 2X buttons offer a satisfying click when you press them, a returning quality from the last model. Not anymore! Perhaps this is just confirmation bias, but the Instinct 2X Solar bezel polymer seems to be slightly firmer than the older watch, which tracks with this change. Garmin also made the newer watch MIL-STD-810 compliant for thermal and shock damage even though the Instinct 2 Solar was thermal and shock resistant, you had to pay extra for the Tactical Edition to get "official" protection. Just make sure to enable the "After sunset" setting for Gesture raise-to-wake without it, the Instinct 2X is completely unreadable away from direct lighting until you press a button. Better contrast between the white text and black background makes the 2 Solar display look surprisingly dull in hindsight. The Instinct 2/ 2X watches with the backlight set to 20% (Image credit: Michael Hicks / Android Central)Īt the standard 20% backlight factory settings, the Instinct 2X display is infinitely more readable than the last generation. And the elevated bezel looks more natural on the 2X because the larger display doesn't feel as tightly enveloped by it. It's a trade-off that pays off in better battery life.īut in the context of the Instinct lineup, the 2X has the best display due to its size and brightness. On its own merits, the monochrome Instinct 2X Solar display is low-resolution and not especially pleasant to look at, even compared to other memory-in-pixel Garmin displays. It's more comfortable than I expected at first, but I can't deny that it's heavier and more noticeable than before. The 2X rests flat against your wrist, and the larger case means the extra mass distributes more widely on your wrist. That extra space boosts the display to a more reasonable 1.1 inches but adds another 14g of weight. That, combined with the wimpy backlight, meant you had to hold it pretty close to your face to read notifications.Ĭhoosing the Instinct 2X Solar means the case size jumps from 45mm to 50mm. The original Instinct 2 Solar weighed at the higher end of a "normal" Garmin watch at 53g with strap, but because of the thick, elevated bezel, it could only squeeze in a 0.9-inch display, part of which is taken up by the second circular window. Unless you've trained your wrist muscles with the larger Fenix or Enduro watches, the Instinct 2X Solar is going to feel heavier than you're used to. 2 Solar on the surface level, it's clear the newer model took the same design and made it larger, with a few tweaks. We haven't had a chance to take a detailed look at iPhoto for iOS yet, but first impressions are promising, and at $4.99 it's half the price of Photoshop Touch. Here's Why Photographers Choose Other Apps That said, it faces stiff competition from Apple's own iPhoto for iOS, which was announced recently alongside the new-generation iPad. It is nice to look at, fairly well-featured, very easy to use, and it's good value at $9.99. Overall, our opinion of Photoshop Touch has not changed much since we originally reviewed it for the Android platform. psdx format when uploaded to Adobe's Creative Cloud, and the layers are kept intact, so if you want to you can continue to edit them, or 'tidy up' from where you left off using the more capable desktop version of Photoshop. Files edited in Photoshop Touch are saved in the. The more responsive iPad allowed us to work with these tools more fluidly, but, ultimately, did nothing to enhance the accuracy of the selection compared to same tools in PS Touch for Android. The Refine Edge technology is a little 'hit or miss' on both Android and iOS platforms to be honest - even after repeated use of the 'refine edge' tool we struggled to make clean selections (notice the bobble on the hat of the girl in the image further up this page, and the 'cloud' of miscellaneous background tones on her shoulder). It's very hard to say whether or not the iOS version of Photoshop Touch is 'better' than the Android version, since there is so much variation in the hardware, but on the devices that we've used, it certainly seems a little smoother. The near-instantaneous response made repetitive painting strokes using the Refine Edge tool easier when using a fingertip to paint difficult to select areas, such as hair or even skin with similar tones to adjacent areas. Whether the improved responsiveness was responsible for this is hard to say though - over time, working with both versions of the app we've become more proficient at using the tools, but the end result is much the same. The familiar UI is well-designed and uncluttered the menu bar, toolbar and layer pallet minimize when adjustments are being made. The iPad 2’s responsiveness helps offset the slightly cramped workspace, which is a result of the screen’s squarer aspect ratio. Both the powerful Scribble Selection Tool and Refine Edge brush, for instance, worked with very little delay on the iPad, whereas on the Galaxy Tab 10.1, they could be rather 'laggy'. This greatly speeds up certain operations, especially when painting and making selections. On that particular tablet, which has a 10.1-inch screen, Photoshop Touch felt a lot less cramped than it does on the squarer 4:3 aspect ratio 9.7-inch panel of the iPad 2.Īlso, whereas we noticed the Android setup was quite slow to respond to some actions, on the iPad 2, Photoshop Touch responds much more quickly and smoothly to simple finger gestures. When we reviewed the Android version of the app, we were lucky enough to have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 at our disposal. The first difference is simply the larger screen real estate of the Galaxy compared to the iPad. There are a couple of major differences though between the two apps in terms of user experience. The app is even loaded with the same tutorials and sample images. Photoshop Touch for iPad has the same functionality, and the same restrictions as the original (including the 1600x1600 pixel resolution limit for images). We found it easier to make selections on the iPad, but the accuracy of selections is unchanged and tidying images up is still best left to the full version of Photoshop.Īnyone expecting any new features over the Android version will be disappointed. We tried the same tutorials on the iPad 2 as we had with the Android version of Photoshop Touch on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, with a view to seeing if the more sprightly performance of the iPad made any difference to the quality of selections. At the time, Adobe stated that they were working on a version for the iPad, and now, after a gestation of a couple of months, Photoshop Touch is finally available for Apple’s iPad 2 (and the forthcoming new-generation iPad), though the original model is not officially supported. When we originally looked at Adobe’s Photoshop Touch editing app it was only compatibile with powerful Honeycomb Android tablets ( you can read our review of the Android version here). Adobe Photoshop Touch for Apple iPad 2 $9.99 / £6.99Ĭompatible with iPad 2 or later, requires iOS5 or laterĪdobe Photoshop Touch for the iPad2 is essentially unchanged from the Android version, but the more responsive operation of the iPad2 compared to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 makes for a slightly better user experience (albeit on a smaller screen). This very useful for offices that need to account for billing, or need to ensure time receipts for faxes. You can have a portable record of everything that happens on the printer. The second USB port is for job storage information. The control panel on the printer allows you to select what you want to print, and control any options you want to apply. If you have a file or photo to print, you can put it on the USB drive and insert the drive into the printer. The first is for “Walk-Up” printing and scanning without a computer. Unlike many other printers, the M477fwn has 2 USB ports, both USB 2.0 compliant. You can also print from your computer after setting up the printer as an option. This works on iOS, Android and Windows smartphones. There is an app from HP which you can use to control and monitor your print jobs. With the NFC option, which is also available on most smartphones, you only have to place your phone next to the printer and you’ll have a connection to print.įor more information on NFC, please see this related article: Near Field Communications Background and Standards The other wireless connection for printing is Near Field Communication (NCF) touch-to-print. This LaserJet supports a 1GB/s connection, which is excellent for large files (especially those with a lot of graphics). The most common is with wireless Ethernet. What we like about the M477fnw are the options to get your files into the printer. With the included software you can also email documents from a scan as well as email a document to the printer to print. Inkjet printers use liquid ink sprayed through microscopic nozzles directly onto the paper.īoth accomplish the same thing, but have different resolutions, speeds and other capabilities.Īs an “all-in-one” or “multi-function”, the HP M477fnw will print, copy, scan and fax. In general, the two technologies can be summarized as: Laser printers use a toner cartridge (filled with fine powder) and a heated element to put ink on the paper. This is a Laser Printer, rather than an Inkjet. Accuracy In engineering, “accuracy” is the ratio of the “error” of a system to the range of values for output that are possible, i.e., the ratio of error to so-called Full-Scale Output. “Accuracy”, as formally defined, and the elements that contribute to it can be only briefly outlined here. Generally, “input” can be looked on as the measured value of an independent variable or “measurand” “output” can be viewed as a measurement made under non-standard or test conditions. In quantitative chemical analyses, the “calibration curve” is an example of the input-output relationship. In physics and engineering, the “stress-strain diagram” is a special representation of the input-output relationship in pharmacology, the “dose-effect curve” is an example of the input-output relationship. The input-output relationship, for all its generality, has specific application–and specific names–in different scientific fields and for different kinds of experimental or observational systems. The elements to be taken into account in a complete evaluation of a method or system can be derived from the properties of the quantitative relationship between the “input” and the “output” for the system. Effective use of a method or observation requires that we know the ways and degrees to which the data are free of error, not that we know only that the data are “accurate” or “inaccurate”. “Accurate” is frequently used to refer indiscriminately to the effect of any of these elements, or to the combined effects of all of them on the freedom from error of a system. The use of the single word “accurate” also hides the fact that a number of separate elements contribute to over-all freedom from error. The use of the word “accurate” – free of error – in referring to a scientific observation or scientific method sometimes obscures the fact that even the best methods and observations are only relatively free from error. b, Compartment(s), Volume of Distribution, Half-Life a is used as a subscript for pharmacokinetic parameters appropriate to the distributive phase, e.g., t 1/2a, V da, etc.Ĭf. Then the second scene loads in it's assets before the first scene's assets are unloaded. happen when you have scenes which each load a big chunk of asset memory into memory with not a whole lot of overlap between them and no empty scene load in-between that would help unload the assets between the scenes. That usually means that you hit a high water mark and have since reduced the memory usage, leave the reserverd bugger space behind. Even though that doesn't help you yet, I thought I'd mention that it's on our radar. That's still a few versions out but not too far off I hope. If you're already calling the Asset GC via Resources.UnloadUnusedAsset() (which btw already also triggers a GC.Collect) then everything that's still in memory after that point, (plus maybe some frames, keeping in mind that the scripting GC may be incremental and the Asset GC could operate multithreadded and async) is going to be memory that is somehow still in use.įiguring that out and the why of it is currently a bit if a manual workflow but I'm aiming to get a view into the tool that will attribute the memory impact to the anchors/roots that keep that memory around, to make finding the main culprits easier. if you unfold the references to it? In 2022.2 we'd be able to tell you which scene and where in the hierarchy that GO is but in older versions we can't.Īlso, whenever there is a switch from Native Objects to Managed Objects in the references chain, there are some conditions that would mean that this connection is essentially non-owning, or less binding.
